All they were told was that the afternoon would be different, and they had a lot to live up to after last year’s Year 5 made their afternoon with our visitor, Katie, a huge success. The current Year 5 did not disappoint!
Working in groups of 4 or 5, they learnt about the qualities that a good leader needs before devising a game that could be played in the playground with minimal equipment and could be adapted to Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2.
Once outside they trialled their game and then had the opportunity to teach it to another group. Their explanations were clear, they were willing to adapt their rules where necessary, and people who didn’t think they were going to enjoy themselves found out that playing new games can be a whole lot of fun.
Well done, Year 5! I look forward to watching you in the playground, teaching your games to other pupils.
