The first inter schools sports competition of the year took place on Wednesday 14th September at New Mills Leisure Centre. New Mills Primary took two teams of Year 5 and 6 girls to play football against girls from Hayfield, Hague Bar, St George’s and Newtown.
Each game was played to 6 a side rules and the event saw some great quality football from all those involved. Mr Worsley (from New Mills School) commented on the high level of sportsmanship amongst the competitors.
All the girls from our school impressed Mrs Fisher by chasing down every ball and going in for every tackle whilst playing fairly. Not only were the girls incredibly supportive of their fellow team members; they supported and encouraged the girls from the other schools too. In the two hours of football, there were no free kicks awarded as a result of a deliberate foul! Mr Worsley congratulated the girls and said that they could teach the professional players in this country a thing or two!!
The semi final saw New Mills Red team lose to Hague Bar whilst New Mills Blue team finished 3rd in their league. The competition was deservedly won by Hayfield red team.
A great start to the sporting calendar!
Well Done team!
