Year 3 & 4 Key Steps Gymnastics Competition

Written by Mrs Williams

On Friday 10th March, twelve schools from around the High Peak took part in the Year 3 and 4 Key Steps Gymnastics competition held at Glossop Leisure Centre.

Each school was able to take a team of 6 gymnasts and each gymnast had to perform a Vault, a Body Management routine and a Floor Exercise. The children from New Mills Primary School had worked really hard in their lunch time breaks to learn the routines and make sure that they knew how to get the maximum points for each move. It was great for the children to experience a real gymnastics competition and to watch the performances of children from the other schools.

This is only the second year that New Mills Primary School have taken part in this event and last year we came 8th overall. We were very pleased this year as the team came 6th overall and also won the Teamwork trophy for supporting each other and working as a team. Scores for the top 7 teams were very close and the judges commented on the high standard of performances. The event was won by Padfield who will go on to represent the High Peak at the area finals.

Well done Liam, Grace, Lucy, Ruby, Ella and Maisie for working so hard and remembering your routines.
