Year 3 & 4 Girls’ Football Competition

Written by Mrs Williams

Wednesday 28th September saw the first Lower Key Stage 2 sport competition of the academic year. Eight teams lined up at New Mills Leisure Centre – two teams from Hayfield joined two teams from New Mills Primary School and one from each of Hague Bar, St George’s, Thornsett and Newtown. This excellent turn-out resulted in a strong level of competition throughout the entire afternoon.

The girls from New Mills Primary played with enthusiasm and energy; a super achievement considering that, for many, it was their first time playing in a football tournament. New Mills Red team finished second in their league and New Mills Blue team finished fourth. The Reds went on to beat Newtown in their semi-final putting them up against a very strong Hayfield team in the final.

A super team performance with some strong attacking from Maddison and Eli and great goalkeeping from Amelia saw New Mills Primary win the event with a final score of 1-0.

Very well done, girls!
