On Wednesday 11th January, seven teams from around New Mills took part in the Year 3 & 4 Benchball competition at New Mills Leisure Centre. The teams played in three leagues and as we took two teams we had representation in two of the three.
Mrs Fisher reports that the standard of play was very high with some teams being so strong, their games only lasted for five minutes. In the initial rounds, it seemed that St Mary’s team were the strongest on the court but after some fantastic play, in the final New Mills Red team beat all three teams in their group to take overall victory. The Blue team had a great result as well, finishing fifth overall.
The team captains were Harry Rowland and Alex Kennedy who both deserve a special mention for exceptional sportsmanship. There was also some excellent understanding of the necessary tactics; particularly from Luke Kelly and Thomas Longshaw.
Mrs Fisher was thrilled at the enthusiastic, yet fair, play from all the children who represented New Mills Primary. There was spontaneous hand-shaking with their opponents at the end of their games and no arguing with the referee, regardless of the decision.
Well done everyone. You are constantly making us proud. Keep the trophy safe!
