New Mills Primary School celebrate Science Week

Written by Mrs Williams

It was National Science Week between 14th – 18th March 2016. To celebrate New Mills Primary School had an afternoon of experiments and investigations. Led by the Year 6 pupils, the younger children were encouraged to get involved with Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Engineering. In mixed age groups, they travelled from classroom to classroom to experience the different scientific events on offer. Some children took advantage of the school grounds and hunted for minibeasts but reported that the chilly spring weather wasn’t really what the millipedes and centipedes like!

Many pupils within both Key Stages took part in the “Design a Junk Alien” competition held in school during the week. Bringing models of varying sizes, made at home, into school, the children delighted in sharing these with their classmates and then putting them on display on the landing for all visitors to admire. The list of winners can be seen below.

Year One – Elodie

Year Two – Florence

Year Three – Nell

Year Four – Jessica

Well done to all those who entered!
