Tuesday 18th October saw New Mills Primary School take part in their second MapQuest event. Teams from around the High Peak turned out in strong numbers, despite the torrential rain, at the event in Whaley Bridge. It was organised by Outdoor Genius and High Peak School Sports Partnership and consisted of two courses – one for Key Stage 1 and the other for Years 3 & 4. Working in teams of three, the children had to find as many checkpoints as possible in twenty minutes and mark them in the correct place on their score card. By the end of the afternoon, most score cards were in soggy pieces but each team had tried really hard to orientate their map and navigate their way round the course.
We took four teams to the event – two from Key Stage 1 and two from Key Stage 2. When the final results were read out from under the shelter of some very small gazebos, New Mills Blue Team had finished in second place so very well done everybody.
Mrs Fisher was particularly proud of Iwan in Year 6 who helped with the younger children, offering excellent coaching, and showing great leadership skills.
