The weather was kind at the Interschool Cyclocross Competition at New Mills School Pavilion on 4th April. The same event last year was cancelled because of a waterlogged course – this year the grass was almost dry!
Nine schools from around the High Peak took part in the event which was hosted by High Peak School Sports Partnership and Cycle Derby who provided the bikes and helmets. Teams of six children raced in a number of events including a bunch race for girls and a relay for boys. For many of our children it was their first time riding a proper cyclocross bike with drop handle bars.
Harpur Hill and Buxworth were fighting for the top two places – both these schools have a number of children who race competitively at the weekends. The high quality racing was great to watch. Buxworth won overall, adding a fourth year to their winning streak. Our team may have come last but they all had a fun afternoon and raced as hard as they could.
Mrs Fisher would like to give a special mention to Poppy who raced against the boys!
The children would like to give a special mention to Mrs Fisher who won the impromptu teacher’s race which our children requested!
