On Thursday 3rd November, seven schools from across the High Peak competed in the Area Cross Country Finals event held at the Pavilion in New Mills. The weather was a little threatening but the rain did hold off for the four races which included girls and boys from Years 3, 4, 5 & 6.
New Mills Primary School had a strong team and there were some great individual performances – Maddison Stanway won the race for Year 3 & 4 Girls and Ben Hammond came 4th in the race for Year 5 & 6 Boys.
Once all the individual scores were added together, the team with the lowest overall score won the chance to compete at the County Finals. That honour went to Burbage Primary with a total of 159 points. Harpur Hill Primary came second with a score of 168 and we came third with a score of 198.
4th = Hayfield Primary = 272
5th = Taxal & Fernilee = 280
6th = Dinting Primary = 366
7th = St Luke’s Primary = 413
We also won the Spirit of the Games Award for Self-Belief. It is great to see the impact that the Daily Mile is having on the children in our school. Not only are we starting to see improvements in fitness and strength but we are also starting to see children becoming more physically resilient – they understand how to push themselves and how to better pace their running.
Well done to all those who ran and thank you to all those parents who turned out to watch.
