Wednesday 12th October saw New Mills Primary School take a record number of children to a sporting event – 54 in total. This is a massive step in our aim to increase participation in Interschool Sport across the whole school. Five other schools joined us at the Area Cross Country Championships at New Mills School’s Playing Fields.
Children competed in teams of four in a relay style race with Years 5 & 6 running a big loop around the whole of the playing fields and Year 3 & 4 running a slightly smaller loop. Key Stage One children were allowed to compete for the first time and all of our infant children did a brilliant job considering they ran nearly as far as the Key Stage 2 children!
There were some outstanding individual performances from some of our children which helped enormously towards the team’s overall score. For many of our children it was their first ever cross country race and they should be incredibly proud of themselves. They showed amazing focus and perseverance.
In the final results, New Mills Primary finished second behind Hayfield Primary. Both schools will go on to represent the New Mills Area at the Area Final on 3rd November. Good luck!
We would like to thank the parents who walked with us from school and supported us during the run. I’m sure you’d all agree that the cheering from our spectators was exceptional throughout the whole afternoon!
