Ten schools from across the High Peak took part in the Change for Life Conference held at Buxton’s Fairfield Centre on Wednesday 15th March. Each school was able to take four children from Year 5 for an afternoon of fun games and activities around the subject of healthy eating and lifestyles.
The children had the opportunity to do a blind taste test for different kinds of fruit and also got to make their own healthy pizza to take home. They did an activity which helped them to understand how much sugar was in some of the everyday foods which they eat and each school was encouraged to come up with an action plan as to how they were going to share what they had learned with the other children in their class.
New Mills Primary School children decided that they wanted to run a pizza making workshop for their class and to make a wall display about the different amounts of sugar in popular drinks.
Each child was given a pedometer to take home and a goody bag with more information about making healthy choices at meal times.
Well done to Klaudia, Cole and Matthew from Year 5 for taking part in the event with such enthusiasm – the pizza making was the highlight of the afternoon.
