Year 3 & 4 Rounders Competition

Written by Mrs Williams

A record ten teams from around New Mills took part in the Year 3 & 4 Area Schools Rounders competition held at New Mills Pavilion on Wednesday 3rd May. The recent spell of dry weather meant that matches could be played on the grass pitches and the hard court allowing all children to play in at least four games.

The standard of play from a number of teams was very high with both Hayfield and St Mary’s relying heavily on their cricketing boys to increase the standard of their play.

New Mills Primary took two teams to the event which consisted predominantly of Year 3 children. Both teams played really well but were unable to make it through to semi-finals.

The event was won by Hayfield Year 4 team who played some great quality Rounders to beat St Mary’s in the final.

Thank you to the captains of our teams Harry Rowland and Luke Jelbert. We may not have won but our children showed great sportsmanship and a positive attitude throughout the afternoon.
