On Wednesday 25th May, teams from four schools in the New Mills Area braved the rain to play in the Boys Kwik Cricket tournament at New Mills Pavilion. Along with our team, there was a team from St George’s and two teams from Hayfield. The New Mills Primary School squad comprised Oscar Ash, Daniel Beattie, Joel Boyes, Ethan Campbell-Powell, Jack Catterall, Alex Green, Nathan Lees, Kit Maddox and Henry Stevenson.
Each game of Kwik Cricket takes around 45 minutes. Each team starts with 200 runs and loses runs for every no-ball bowled or each player bowled out. The boys from New Mills Primary played the very impressive Hayfield A team first – it was a tough match and, despite some strong performances, we lost on total runs. The team started to get into their stride in the second game against Hayfield B team, winning on overall runs. Our final game against St George’s saw some great cricket from both sides, and in the final score we lost by only one run. The boys played consistently with great performances from Kit Maddox and team captain, Alex Green. Mrs Fisher would like to give a special mention to Joel Boyes who discovered his ‘inner cricketer’ at the tournament!
Overall we came second to Hayfield A – a great result and one which puts us through to the Area finals in June.
