Tuesday 22nd March saw the Key Steps Gym Festival held at New Mills Leisure Centre. Eight children from Years 1 and 2 represented New Mills Primary School. They were Phoebe Bolton, Jaiden Coverley-Mairs, Maisie Done, Arthur Fisher, Mia Grove, George Hammond, Sophie Rowe and Madison Stanway. Hayfield Primary and Hague Bar also entered teams of pupils. The session began with all children learning the Key Steps Gymnastics moves, including a vault, floor routine and body management routine. Thee children were given the chance to improve on moves they already knew as well as learning new moves. They also learnt about how strong their bodies are, what muscles are and what we use them for!
The Festival is intended to introduce children to the British Gymnastics Key Steps moves so that they are able to take part in the Y3 & 4 Key Steps competition next year. Mrs Fisher accompanied the children and says that they all seemed to enjoy the morning and were fully active for over two hours…no mean feat!
Well done “Team New Mills Primary”!
