On Thursday 9th June, eight teams from across the High Peak competed in the Girls Area Kwik Cricket Finals held at Hayfield Cricket Club.
The standard of play was very high with many teams having been coached by Cricket Derbyshire and a number of individuals playing at county level. The team from New Mills Primary School (Evie, Erin, Millie, Esme, Isobel, Danielle, Sharnna, Poppy, Kiera) played in a league with Dove Holes and Padfield.
This was the first time that New Mills Primary School had competed in the girl’s cricket event and despite our lack of experience we put in a solid overall performance. The girls enjoyed the atmosphere of the event and it was a great experience for them to play on a full sized cricket pitch with a proper umpire.
In the end we lost both our games but the standard of our play improved throughout the afternoon. There were great individual performances from Esme and Millie whilst Kiera and team captain, Evie, showed some great leadership skills supporting the other girls.
Harpur Hill won the overall event and will go on to represent the Area in the county finals.
