Election Day

Written by Mrs Williams

On the day the country went to the polls, New Mills Primary School held its own election – for Headteacher and Deputy Head for the day! The role of Headteacher was openĀ for all of Key Stage Two to stand for, and the role of Deputy Head was available for Key Stage One.

After presenting their manifestos to the rest of their Key Stage in the hall (not an easy thing to do) on Wednesday, the voters made their cross on the ballot paper on Thursday 8th June.

The papers were sorted and counted at lunchtime and the names of the winners were placed in a sealed envelope to be opened in a whole school assembly at 2:45pm in the hall and announced by Miss Whetstone.

The successful candidates were Erin Murray in Year 6 and George Land in Year One. Both were thrilled with their new jobs and declared Friday 9th June a “Wear What You Want Day”! There will be colouring in, competitions and prizes!

Congratulations to both our winners and a big well done to all the other candidates.

Everyone was waiting at the front of assembly, all looking at Mrs Whetstone. I think it was very intense!
