Cheerleading Festival

Written by Mrs Williams

In an attempt to give our children the widest range of sporting opportunities possible, New Mills Primary School took part in our first Cheerleading Festival held at Chapel High School.

300 children in Cheerleading teams from around the High peak attended the event which was run by the High Peak School Sports Partnership in association with ‘Loud and Proud’, a cheerleading group from Glossop. It was an amazing atmosphere in the auditorium with teams supporting each other and competing to give the loudest and most enthusiastic cheer.  All the teams gave high energy performances with a combination of dance and gymnastic moves alongside lifts and other tricks.

The girls from our Year 6 class did a fantastic job, having choreographed the routine themselves and having had only limited time to rehearse. Well done to all those who took part and special mention to Mia Hall who lead the team and pulled the routine together.

In the spirit of the event Mrs Fisher took part in the ‘Teachers Dance Off’ – something which she was not prepared for but which she attacked with enthusiasm, cheered on by the Year 6 girls.

Today we all proved that #thisgirlcan.
